Miller Time!

We went straight to the park and met up with Lester Kasai, Sandro Dias and our good friends from Antwerp, Marc and Ilrika. We then sat down and watched the Qualifiers, which in itself was amazing. Skaters such as Jeff Hedges, Cookie Head, Josh Stafford, Sky Skileggegegegggeg, Ken Fillion and many others. This is when we heard the news that The “HAWK” was in town, and he was entering!!

There was a nasty crash in the Combi where Cookie-Head Jenkins and Josh Stafford collided – Josh coming off a lot worse. Following the incident, Cookie-Head had to pull out of the Comp, he was obviously gutted. At this point, we went to the Alcatraz bar with Tom Miyao a good friend of mine and a Pro on Dogtown We had a couple of beers and Tom produced two tickets for us which was a great relief considering I hadn’t got any yet! It’s a long, long way to travel and not have tickets.

We then went back to the Combi and watched the rest of the Qualifying runs until it finished whenВ we moved back to “Alcatraz” (quelle surprise! – Ed) , which plays host to the Contest and Vans every year.

That night they had a ‘skaters meeting’ and pulled the names out of the hat for each heat. Quite something being in the same room with guys like, Cab, Hosoi, Mountain, Miller Senior and Miller Lite (haha!), Dave Duncan, Ben Schroeder, Pat Ngoho, Steve Alba, Ffej, Bucky Lasek (sporting his cane due to a recent fractured ankle), Eric Nash, Steve and Kristy VanDoren, Nicky Guerrero, Lester, Rob “Sluggo” Boyce and many other skate-types. Free food and free beer – my kind of night!!
