Word!

Our first anniversary of the Magazine is fast approaching – December 1st, to be precise. We started off with the intention of publishing a mag every month – and for the first 3 or 4 we managed to do this. But we underestimated just how much work, time, and money would be going into the production of Skateboarding Photo. We don’t get paid for doing this, we have other jobs (and lives) away from skateboarding that pays the rent / mortgage. But looking back over our first year, we’re pretty stoked on what we’ve achieved, and want to take this opportunity to thank everyone thats helped, supported or encouraged us. Thank you all so much!

It’s been a while since we last put a mag out, but we’ve been busy in the background getting content, and making tweaks to the way you guys use and access the magazine. We’ve now got our new Homepage, where you can jump straight to any of the content from the current or any of the back issues. We’ve also changed our cover page layout and played about with our logo. All in all, we think the improvements have been worth it, and hope that you’re going to enjoy the improved user / reader experience.

In this issue (#8), you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained: an in-depth interview with legendary lensman, Jim Goodrich; a photo-report from the Ham Jam in September; a ‘Hometown Scene’ piece from Southampton; our first Book Review; an interview with new indy brand ‘Super Toxic Urethane’; plus a Lens Flare and your rad pics in Exposure. Two new features that we’re going to run on a regular basis also make a debut in Issue #8: ‘Indecent Exposure’ is a fun little contest that we’ll run whereby we’ll give you a shooting brief to go out with boards and cameras and capture specific tricks. This first month it’s all about the Hippy Jump, and it’s been brilliant looking through all of the images that you’ve sent in for it. For the next issue, we want to see your best Wall-Ride shots.

The second new feature we call “Park Life”. We reckon that over 90% of skateboarding in the UK takes place in local skateparks, and yet they never get representative coverage in magazines. Sure, skating and shooting in the streets is a blast but we often miss out on seeing some serious of the radness that goes on in our skateparks around the country. Every issue, we’re going to bring you recent shots from parks that we’ve visited. In this issue, you’ll see some pics of the new Haslemere park amongst others.

Enough for now, enjoy Issue #8, let us know what you think. HM
