Epic with a capital ‘E’

Without doubt, the highlight of the film is Cullens epic (and I mean ‘epic’ with a capital E) front lip down a local 16 set handrail. Brilliantly edited, the footage shows Jed’s crazy attempts to tame this beast of a rail – blood, mud, sweat, shit and a host of other bodily fluids contribute to showing how much he wanted to nail that bad boy. After several runs at it, and destroying himself in the process, the footage shows a despondent Jed walking away without the prize. Nightmare. The next part runs on the vid, and then returns with a “3 days later” screen, and Jeds back to work and finally kills it. The crowd in Wahoo go fucking mental – I cant remember the last time I heard that kind of reaction to a dude landing a hammer.

If you’ve seen it, you’ll know what I’m talking about, if you haven’t, buy a copy from Reskue (a bargain at £5.99) – it’s worth it just for that insane lipper.

The photo’s in this piece were shot over a few sessions during the last few weeks. We tried to capture as many of the local talent as we could, but there are just so many genuinely great skaters in Southampton that it would have taken months to shoot them all. In the end we settled for shooting most of the dudes in the Reskue vid (although it was difficult to get everybody). Shout out to Dean Jones and the Chip Shop Army boys – we’ll be catching up with you fellas soon.
