“Experience the moment”

When you run your skate photography workshops with youngsters, what is the most important advice you can share with them?

Pre-visualization and perseverance are the most important things in photography.В With Pre-visualization, I always tell them to learn to see the photo before you shoot the photo.

Look at the light, the shadows, compose the photo in your mind, slow down. In the digital world, it’s hard for kids to slow down, everything is so immediate, patience, experience the moment. Perseverance comes into play in different ways, learn everything you can about Photography and don’t give up, don’t take “no” for an answer. It may take time, maybe years, if it was easy everyone would do it.

If it’s important to you, persevere, keep striving. It’s true in everything, true in life.

Finally, and this brings us neatly back to those halcyon / neon days – it’s been announced recently that Stacey Peralta’s new skate doc on ‘The Bones Brigade’ is in the process of being put together. It’s obviously going to bring back some great memories of the Animal Chin ramp at Oceanside for you? Care to share your thoughts…..?

That was one of my favorite periods in skateboarding, it was so simple back then. Before skating on TV and the internet craziness and mega-ramp extravaganzas.В A time when the masses knew nothing of our world and we had it to ourselves and that was fine with us.

I can’t wait to see what Stacy and those guys come up with, I suppose I will shed a tear or two.

If it’s anything like ‘Dogtown & Z-Boys’, I think we’ll all get a bit misty-eyed! Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us Grant!

Thanks Guys!
